After the Taj Expressway and Taj City project, it is now the turn of Greater Noida phase-II to emerge as another world-class city, said officials after presenting the annual budget on Wednesday. The highest expenditure has been planned for land acquisition in the district to kickstart plans for the new city.
Dadri tehsil of Gautam Budh Nagar and Sikanderabad and Sadar tehsils of Bulandshahr district will together form the Greater Noida phase-II. Together, they will push the city limits to the banks of the Ganga and the upcoming Ganga Expressway, officials said. Rs 2,400 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition to complete the process, sources said.

Metro For Greater Noida
With the development push for Greater Noida, the Authority has cleared the proposal to start fresh work on clearance of the Metro. When cleared, the new stretch of the Metro will go up to Jewar International Airport, officials said.

"It will be a boon for the international airport-people will be able to travel to Delhi and Noida on the Metro," said Lalit Srivastava, chairman of the board comprising Noida, Greater Noida and Taj Expressway authorities and CEO of Greater Noida Authority and Taj Expressway Authority.

Funds amounting to Rs 150 crore have been cleared for the Metro project in Noida, and officials said the allocation could be increased if talks with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to push the Metro into Greater Noida are successful. Initial plans are to construct the Metro line along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, officials said.

Hotels And Other Projects
With an eye on the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Greater Noida plans to build 15 five-star hotels and three three-star hotels in the next two years. Plans are also on to get the Taj Expressway operational before the Games, officials said.

For the hotels, land has been earmarked in five sectors of the city: Chi-Fi extension, City Centre, Delta-I, Alpha-II and KP-V. The budget has allocated Rs 150 crore for this project.

Nine other hotels are also in the pipeline for the middle-income group tourists, officials said.

Other Infrastructure
Along with the upcoming Gautam Budha University, two colleges, one each in Noida and Greater Noida, have been planned; Rs 250 crore has been earmarked for the pur pose. Two super-specialty hospitals, one each in Noida and Greater Noida, are also planned at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

The schools, Noida Authority CEO Moninder Singh said, "will be worldclass".
