Power Tariff Eight Per Cent Hike In Noida, Ghaziabad

Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad should prepare themselves for steep power bills as the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) announced an eight per cent hike in the domestic power tariff eight per cent hike on Tuesday.
This means that domestic consumers with electricity consumption above 200 units per month, who were paying a flat rate of Rs 3 per unit, will now have to cough up Rs 3.30 per unit. But the hike has spared rural consumers.

In addition to this, domestic consumers (consuming above 200 units per month) will also have to pay Rs 10 per kilowatt extra as fixed charge, which has been raised from Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kilowatt.

Besides, to discourage unbridled use of air conditioners, an additional flat rate of Rs 150 per tonne of actual AC load has been introduced on consumers with electricity load above 5 KW. This flat AC tariff, howevel: will apply only during the period from April to September.

Likewise, a significant increase of Rs 10 per unit has been made for commercia1hoardings to dissuade nonessential consumption tariffs for commercial advertisement along the roadside.

The limit for lifeline rates of Rs 1.90 for consumers with contracted load of 1 KW and energy consumption up to 100 units has been raised to 150 units per month. Above 150 units and up to 200 units, they would have to pay Rs 2.50 per unit, while the normal consumer would be charged a flat rate of Rs 3 per unit for power consumption between 150-300 units.

"The revised tariffs would become applicable one week from the date of their publication by the licensee," said UPERC Chairman Vijay Kumar.
