Crossing Will Turn Signal-Free

Cloverleaves At Akshardham, Crossing Will Turn Signal-Free
Two Summers more and a major traffic bottleneck on NH-24 at the Akshardham crossing will be an easy-tonegotiate, signal-free junction.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has in principle agreed for a revamp of the junction - including a plan to add three cloverleaves to the existing flyover that would help commuters from all directions. Other plans include adding slipways and a pedestrian subway opening on all four sides.

The revamp would specially benefit motorists coming in from Noida and going towards Ghazipur, and those headed towards Vikas Marg Chungi from Ghazipur crossing.
The proposal, with the DDA's technical committee now, will be sent to the Delhi Urban Arts Commission for a final nod, DDA officials said.

"This is a major long-term traffic management measure and the signalfree junction will help smoothen traffic on the stretch between Nizamuddin T-point and Ghaziabad border on the NH 24," traffic officials said.
The additional facilities would come up before the Commonwealth Games without disturbing either the existing flyover or the under-construction Metro line to Noida running parallel to it, sources said.
Over the years, the volume of motorists plying on NH-24 from various parts of east Delhi along with those coming from Vaishali, Kaushambi and Indirapuram has seen a steady rise.

A long-term traffic measure was felt for quite some time and the Commonwealth Games village coming up besides the Akshardham temple on NH-24 provided the right impetus.
Three cloverleaves and slipways, as decided by the Delhi Development Authority, will mean a smoother signal-free Akshardham junction. Also, considering the huge pedestrian volume, especially visitors to the Akshardham temple, a pedestrian subway at the junction with openings on all four sides is also planned, sources said.
At present, only those coming from Nizamuddin side can climb the cloverleaf to go right and join UP-Noida link road towards Noida. For the rest of the three sides, there is no right turn at the junction.

Vehicles coming from Ghazipur crossing cannot turn right at the Akshardham temple junction to reach Vikas Marg Chungi, neither can those coming from Noida take a right turn towards Ghazipur crossing. Similar is the woe of commuters from Vikas Marg chungi who wish to go towards Nizamuddin. With the additions complete, right turns will be possible for commuters coming from all sides.

And there's more. At the T-junction of the Games Village entry road and the NH 24, a flyover will take care of the straight moving traffic while a roundabout below it will cater to vehicles entering or coming out of the Games Village from this side.

Just last week, a function was organised to start work for a three-layer traffic management plan at the Ghazipur junction. The plan includes a flyover for straight moving traffic on the NH 24.

With all the flyovers complete, motorists can zoom past the approximately six-kilometre stretch from Ghaziabad border till Nizamuddin T-point in just 10 minutes.
