Ghaziabad Flyover 1.5 crore costlier

Flyover At ALT Crossing In Limbo, Because of the delay project has become costlier by Rs 1.5 crore
If the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and the State Bridge Corporation do not act fast, the much-awaited ALT crossing overbridge is going to have the same fate as the Mohan Nagar flyover. After a delay of more than a year, the project is far from completion.
The ALT crossing overbridge project started in January 2007. With the State Bridge Corporation delaying the shifting of high tension wires, the project has not only become costlier by Rs 1.5 crore but will also not open for traffic this year, as was scheduled.

The face off between the two agencies only means a longer wait for the bridge to open for public. The overbridge at the ALT crossing is one of the 14 overbridges planned in the city by GDA for smoother traffic flow. The project is third after the Kennilworth and Mohan Nagar flyovers.

There is a heavy rush at the crossing due to the presence of major offices in the area

"Though the Bridge Corporation has started relocating the high tension wires, the project has been delayed for no apparent reason," says Vice Chairman GDA, S. K. Dwivedi.
The project cost was Rs 16 crore, the overbridge was to be 600 m long and 14 m wide. The ALT crossing is one of the most chaotic crossings in the city. The GDA has already prioritised its constructions on the basis of the traffic load of the area.

"With such important projects being delayed, the GDA efforts to put chaotic zones on priority is not going to benefit residents," says K. V Pathak, a resident of Kavi . Nagar.

ALT crossing witnesses a heavy rush of private buses and other vehicles because the area is surrounded by major offices like the passport office, collectorate and the police headquarters. With the project heading nowhere, the crossing seems to be another delayed project.
