Infrastructure Mess - Indirapuram

A drive down NH-24 to the Shipra Mall means recreation for families from East Delhi, Ghaziabad and Noida, especially on weekends. But for the residents of the area life is a hell everyday and on weekends the problem only worsens.
The reason is the ever-increasing number of constructions and lack of infrastructure development in the area. To begin with, the interior roads are stn broken, there are no parking lots in Vaibhav Khand and the Ganga water project serves only the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) areas.
"The area has come up very well but when it comes to basic infrastructure the area has none. As a result most people who have bought property here have not shifted. Flats have been lying vacant because people do not want to shift here," says N. Vijay, a resident of Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram.
In Shipra Suncity Phase I, one of the biggest colonies of Indirapuram, there are nearly 200 such flats. "It is not just Phase Iwhere flats are lying va- cant. There are more in Phase II. When GDA has done such large-scale development along with private developers then how can it forget basics like road, water, sewer?" wonders Sanjay Singh, genera1 secretary, Shipra Suncity RWA.
"Every builder who has constructed a residential complex has also constructed at least a 80-100 shop complex or a mall by the same name near the project. The GDA has readily agreed without visualising the number of cars that are going to choke the area," says V. K. Loomba, a resident of the area.
The property rates have already escalated because of the hype created by the new projects and the proposed Metro. While 50 such projects are in the pipeline, the property here has seen more investors than actual residents of the area.
"The fact is that the infrastructure development is taking place. For instance, most of the roads have been repaired and constructed. Other proj- ects like increasing the capacity of the sewer treatment plant is being done," says A. K. Gupta, executive engineer: GDA.
