Metro To Go Up To Sector 62 And Greater Noida
There is good news for Sector 62 residents. Their longpending demand for a Metro connectivity has been fulfilled. A decision was taken to extend the Metro line to Greater Noida and from there to the Taj International Airport (TIA) coming up in Zevar on one side and to Noida's Sector 62 on the other The decision was taken at a meeting held last week.
The project will ultimately benefit the airport project at Zevar as passengers will be able to travel easily between DelhiNoida and Greater Noida. The Metro is expected to reach Greater Noida by 2012 and the Zevar airport by 2015. The proj- ect is estimated to cost Rs 11,000 crore.

The expenditure of extending the track from Noida to Greater Noida and further will be borne jointly by the three authorities - NA, GNIDA and TIA.

The work will be carried out in three phases. In the first phase, the Metro rail track will be extended from Sector 32 in Noida via the Noida-Greater Noida Ex- pressway and Pari Chowk to Knowledge Park-V in Greater Noida. This 130 m wide track will measure 29 km and be completed by 2012.

In the second phase to be completed by 2014, the track will be extended from Knowledge Park-V to Sector 62 in Noida. In the third phase, the track will be extended for 42 km up to TIA in Zevar by 2015. A detailed project report will be prepared within a month.

"The DMRC will fulfill its purpose of connecting farflung areas with Central Delhi by covering this sector," says S. M. Singh, president of the Federation of Sector 62 RWAs.

"There are over 12,000 flats here, many in- stitutions, hospitals and software units. Residents of this sector have their offices in Delhi and vice versa," says Singh. "With Indirapuram (Ghaziabad) close by, it will benefit the residents there also," he adds.
