MLAs get prime plots in Ghaziabad

60 UP MLAs get prime plots in Ghaziabad, 201 waitlisted
Plots measuring between 180 and 198 sq metres allotted at Rs 9,000 per sq metre against market value of Rs 45,000
THE Ghaziabad Development Authority today held a draw to distribute 60 plots, measuring between 180 square meter and 198 square meter in Indirapuram, to UP legislators.
The plots, which have a market value of Rs 45,000 per square meter, were given away at Rs 9,000 per square meter: the legislators got the plots for about Rs 16 lakh as against the market value of over Rs 80 lakh.

The special draw was held at the Ganna Sansthan auditorium in Dalibagh, where MLAs and MLCs cutting across party lines, were seen enquiring whether their names figured on the list of beneficiaries.
Of the total 60 plots allotted today, 58 measured 180 square meter while two were 198square metre.

Before the legislators are given allotment letters, they are required to file an indemnity bond stating that do not own any plot developed either by the UP Housing and Development Board or development authority in any part of the state.
"The GDA has not given any subsidy and has recovered full cost, which is as determined by the costing department," said S K Dwivedi, Vice-Chairman of the GDA.

Principal Secretary, Housing, Harmindar Raj Singh, however, said, "We hope the MLAs will not use the property for speculative purpose and not sell the plot for profit."
Out of the 301 legislators who had applied for the plots, 261 applications were found valid after scrutiny. The plots were allotted on the basis of a draw as only 60plots were available.

The remaining MLAs will be given plots in the Madhuvan and Bapudham housing schemes to be developed by the GDA by the end of the year, sources said.
The draw was held in the presence of Assembly Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar, Housing Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui and three other ministers, MLAs and senior officials of the Housing Department.

The scheme for allotment of plots to legislators was initiated during the BJP regime in 1999 following which the Indirapuram Yojna was announced by the GDA.

In 2002, at the instance of former Housing Minister Lalji Tandon, a GO was issued providing five per cent reservation for the physically challenged, freedom fighters, MPs from UP and MLAs. In 2003, the GO was amended and "MPs" was deleted.
The order provided that the legislators could get plots of their choice subject to availability. There were 5,011 plots in the Indirapuram housing scheme, and 252 plots were earmarked for the legislators, sources said.

Of these, 71 were allotted during the Samajwadi Party regime, 60 allotted today and the remaining will be given either in Indirapuram, where land for 111 plots is under litigation, or in other areas to be developed by the GDA, sources said
