NH-24 - A Education Hub

As the month of June approaches, students will be making a beeline for admissions in various colleges and universities across the country. In the National Capital Region (NCR) the same saga of earlier years, in which the number of seats fell far low in comparison to the student populace, will be repeated again. The reason primarily for this phenomenon is that Delhi has always been the number 1 choice of students.

However, this notion is not totally true. Western UP, especially Ghaziabad and Meerut are coming up in a big way to meet the requirements of professional education of lakhs of students, be it engineering, management, medical or any other stream.
According to former director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Ghaziabad and currently a faculty at AIT, Greater Noida, Professor Anoop Pant, "NCR which includes parts of Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida has developed as one of the leading business and educational hubs of our nation." He elaborated, "Today, business organizations need young and dynamic people who are equipped with managerial and technological knowledge, skill and vision. The institutes of Ghaziabad and Western UP nurture quality, creative ability and innovation which provide the key to success in today's fast-changing global economic environment." He remarked that as NCR boasted of a high volume of business activity with its special zones of manufacturing, export and services, among others, the industry was in constant need of trained manpower which the institutions of Western UP were able to provide.

Professor Pant said: "As the region enjoys all the luxuries of Delhi, this has become one of the most soughtafter educational, cultural and business locations in India and Asia. The region has one of the best engineering, medical, business, social sciences, public administration institutions."

However, this was not the case a few year's back when parents and wards, both feared to even enter Ghaziabad, as it was perceived as a crime infested area. Not so anymore! Today, Ghaziabad and Meerut are home to hundreds of educational institutions, many of them, like IMT, having made a mark for themselves. Professor Pant averred, "Students and parents are looking towards this region as the preferred destination for quality professional education. Parents desirous of quality professional education for their children do not have to go far as the same or even better standards of professional education are being offered close to their homes."

He added, "Knowledge Park in Greater Noida and the National H i g h - way-24, which passes through Ghaziabad, are dotted with various professional institutes which cater to the ever increasing requirement of young professionals to be absorbed by the increasing appetite of our nation's growing economy. This region makes the interaction possible with policy makers and industry. The fast changing world has set new standards for success based on ever increasing quest for knowledge and excellence with pragmatic mindset."

But a word of caution is advisable. According to the director general, Institute of Management Education, Ghaziabad, Satish Gupta, "Sensing great opportunity, large number of educational institutions have cropped up in NCR Delhi region, like in Ghaziabad and Meerut, however, the quality of education is an issue. Because of the exponential increase in the number of opportunities, students need to carefully evaluate their options in selection of the institutions by seeking appropriate advice." Gupta pointed out that NCR was home to some of the finest institutions and therefore attracted a large number of migratory students, who made a career by staying back after finishing their studies. He said: "We at IME, Ghaziabad strive to provide students a congenial academic atmosphere by combining education with all round personality development."
The dean of IMT-CDL, Dr. A.M. Sherry believes that Ghaziabad has more to offer than just education. He elaborated, "The great city of Ghaziabad has a vast amount of resources that can lead to not only an higher education but a better way of life also. The city of Ghaziabad, which is fast paced, growing industrial city that is constantly developing, has population 22,47,434 and growing. Its steady growing population sets the path for more job opportunities and more enhanced education opportunities to possibly be readily available. Ghaziabad has an excellent educational system available for students to pursue whatever they choose to in life. Ghaziabad also has quite a large amount of private and government colleges that primarily focuses on management, engineering as well as other specific career focused colleges also."

According to Dr. Sherry the institutions in the city were offering a lot of valueaddition too. He remarked, "Ghaziabad's educational system is excellent. It gives its students the opportunity to learn discipline and recognized studies that prepares them for many important exams to ease admission in prestigious colleges." He said academic excellence was one of the main priorities in Ghaziabad's educational system.

"Supplying young students with the knowledge they need to go to a higher level in their pursuit of education. With private and government colleges focusing on management as field that is very prosperous and needed in society there are also many other options that Ghaziabad's education system offers. There are physiotherapy institutes, science technology, hotel management, law, business, paramedical sciences, teacher education, nursing, and dental colleges. All of Ghaziabad's colleges and institutes are accredited and recognized by the appropriate standards in government schools and colleges in the country," Dr. Sherry pointed out. Students can select a career that will benefit and improve their life for years to come.

Some of the leading institutions like IMS Ghaziabad, ITS Ghaziabad and Shiva Institute of Management, all provide the finest education with a lot of interface with the industry. These also have the best of faculty and infrastructure.
