Three major power plants for Greater Noida
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to set up three mega power plants in the Noida and Greater Noida areas to meet the increasing demand of power in the fast-growing region.
Each of these plants is proposed to be of 1,000-1,300 MW capacity.Huge plots of land have been identified for the purpose in Jehangirpur, Chola and along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation chairman Navneet Sehgal has told IANS .
He was of the view that each of the plants, proposed to be set up under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, would require about 250 acres of land.
A proposal in this regard has already been made to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) which has shown keen interest in undertaking one of these projects at Jehangirpur village.
However, DMICDC was inclined to set up a gas-based plant, which may not be cost- effective as it would entail a production cost of about Rs.7 per unit; therefore, we have asked them to consider a thermal power plant instead,” disclosed Mr. Sehgal.
Meanwhile, the UP Power Corporation has set up a subsidiary in collaboration with the Great Noida Authority and Yamuna Expressway Authority for setting up the Chola project in Bulandshahr district.
As per our arrangement, each of the proposed power plants would have to reserve 50 per cent of their production for the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, while they would be free to distribute the rest under the ‘open access regime’ to anyone,” Mr. Sehgal said. Hoping to have the proposed plants in place before the end of 2014, he was confident of augmenting UP’s power generation to 25,000 MW by then.- IANS
