Ghaziabad And Greater Noida Road Work To Be Resumed

Work on the proposed link road between Ghaziabad and Greater Noida is finally set to take off after a delay of almost seven years. The Greater Noida Authority and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) claim to have reached a settlement over completing the 1.5-km stretch between the two cities. Once the link road connecting Greater Noida and Ghaziabad is complete, it will reduce travel time between the two cities to just 20 minutes.
While construction work on most of the 22 km stretch is already complete, construction of around 1.5 km of the link road has remained stuck for seven years now.
On Tuesday, the Greater Noida Authority released the first cheque worth Rs 10 crore to GDA and also allotted a two-acre plot to begin the construction work, Greater Noida Authority DCEO P C Gupta said.

Earlier, in January this year, the Ghaziabad Development Authority had expressed its inability to complete the link road project citing lack of funds for the same. It had at the time sought payment of Rs 23.5 crore from the Greater Noida Authority claiming that the link road, once complete, would benefit Greater Noida as much as it would benefit Ghaziabad.
The payment sought is part of the package to be delivered to villagers whose land has been acquired for completing the project and for the construction of the remaining 1.5 km of the link road stretch. In all, as many as 38 villagers remain to be paid their due compensation for the land acquired.

The project aims to connect Greater Noida's sector Zeta to Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad. The proposed road, 130 metres wide and 22 km long, will start at Zeta and pass through Devla, Khodna, Khurd, Khairpur Gurjar, Etaida and Haibatpur before reaching Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad.
The project faced several delays after villagers protested against the land acquisition process and refused to allow work until proper compensation was offered. Now, with the issue of compensation being addressed by the authorities, officials claim that the construction work on the remaining stretch will be completed in six months. The link road will also be signal free.
At present, the residents of Greater Noida have to cross Noida and Dadri to reach Ghaziabad. Commuting through the Etaida-Chaproula-Ghaziabad route takes up to two hours.
"The link road will also open new avenues of business between the two cities. Industries that face problems while transporting goods, and students from Ghaziabad who study in Greater Noida will be major beneficiaries of the project," said an official.

A negotiation had been going on from the past three months between the GDA and Noida Authority over completion of the project. Apart from that, only 38 residents whose land had been acquired for the purpose had been given the compensation amount. The completion of the project was delayed further due to continuous protests by the villagers.
